Somerset Cup match preview

Wellington preview - Tuesday 22nd November (ko.7.45pm)

Tuesday night sees City in Somerset Premier Cup action (Second Round) against Wellington, who are currently riding high in Toolstation League Division One.

The Tangerines last won this division in 2008 (coincidentally the last time City won the Somerset Premier Cup), but have yet to lift the coveted Somerset Premier Cup. They were given a bye to this stage following Longwell Green’s withdrawal from the scheduled clash in the previous round. Their 4-0 win at Malmesbury Victoria on Saturday kept them level on points at the top with Keynsham Town.

City have often used these matches to experiment with younger players. They lost at this stage last year at home to Street, but have better luck against Wellington in the past, winning all four meetings (all in the SPC) without conceding a goal. The clubs last met at Twerton Park in 1997 when a strong City side ran out 7-0 winners, goalkeeper Mark Hervin amongst the scorers with a late penalty.
Admission prices: £6 / £3 / £1
